Seattle Bamboo has a number of programs to make it less expensive to remove your bamboo grove if it has become a problem. Call us at 206.724.1977 to discuss any of these programs.

The Flex Program

The flex program allows us to remove your bamboo grove as it is needed elsewhere. Our priority is always the requirements of the Woodland Park Zoo.

We donate all our thinnings and green bamboo to the zoo, as well as all the plants that they need to use in various habitats. We also sell bamboo inexpensively to property owners when we have some available. If you need bamboo or have bamboo you need to remove, please let us know.

Removing bamboo is an arduous chore. We have the strength, the tools, and the expertise to extract bamboo from almost any situation. Removing bamboo so it can be replanted is even more difficult, but we consider this a labor of love and respect for the bamboo plant and for the planet earth. The process begins with careful thinning of aged, damaged, and unsightly canes. Then we map out the grove to determine the best place to start the process and the best way to remove the plants so that they can be saved.

Even though the process is more difficult and time consuming, we try to credit the homeowner for any bamboo we sell from their property. Please understand when this is not the best idea for us, especially if we have to deliver the bamboo to its new home or pot it, care for it, and keep it at the nursery until a new home is discovered.

The VIP Program

The VIP program is reserved for those who need the work done NOW. We charge a bit more, but guarantee that the work is begun as soon as the next day, and that we invest all our efforts on your property so the work is done swiftly.

Our ironclad guarantee usually requires a waiting period before a client is able to replant. The VIP services waives this time period so you can re-landscape right away.

When a bamboo grove has escaped its barrier, it is usually time to either remove and replace it, or "renegotiate" your relationship with it. If bamboo is happy where it is, there are usually no problems. But once it has become unhappy and begins to try to escape, it is time to think about removing it. We have the tools, the brains, and the brawn to successfully remove problem groves, and we guarantee our work.

If a new shoot emerges where we have dug, we remove it for free, forever. Call us at 206.724.1977 for a detailed phone estimate, or we will come out and take a look at the issues you are having for a fee based consultation. Our consultation fees are waived or credited back to you once we sign a contract and schedule your work.

PLEASE NOTE: Overcrowded bamboo will WANT to escape, it will produce very leggy and unhealthy new shoots, and will not replace the old culms with fresh, healthy new growth. Overcrowded bamboo plantings will also create a "root bound" situation the size of the containment area, this is often a very huge problem with existing groves.

Bamboo Planting

There are "right" ways to plant and contain bamboo, and there are all the other ways. We have the expertise, the tools, the energy, and the right varieties of bamboo that will work in your garden. And we know how to plant it.

If you need a planting consultation we offer that as part of our service or you can plant it yourself and we will deliver it to your site in the Seattle area for free.

Spring and Early Summer Thinning

If you have a grove of bamboo on your property and it has NOT been thinned, you NEED this service. One of the ways to "contain" bamboo is to keep it very happy where you want it. Thinning the grove allows for light to penetrate the canopy, enables new growth to sprout within the grove, and keeps mite and other pest problems to a minimum.

Seattle Bamboo is the main supplier of bamboo for an elephant feeding experience for zoo visitors at the Woodland Park Zoo. All of your clean bamboo thinnings and prunings will be delivered there throughout this spring and summer.

PLEASE NOTE: Overcrowded bamboo will WANT to escape, will produce very leggy and unhealthy new shoots, and will not replace the old culms with fresh, healthy new growth. Overcrowded bamboo plantings will also create a "root bound" situation the size of the containment area, this is often a very huge problem with existing groves.

It is a good idea to have us look at your grove and determine if you need this service.

Seattle Bamboo is unique as we often trade a portion of our fees for bamboo plants that we thin from your gardens if we can find a new home for them. We love bamboo, to us the life and vibrancy of this plant is both engaging and mysterious. This love shows in our work and our main interest is in the health of your bamboo. Often, however, bamboo is not a good choice for your small garden.
